Like most Australians, we at Stancombe indulge in a lot of TV watching, web browsing, blog reading, magazine mooching and book buying regarding the world of food.
Thanks to Season’s 1,2,3 & 4 of Masterchef we have come to appreciate that good food is made with love. The kitchen is the heart of our home. We nourish our souls and the people we love through the provision of great food, made with the best ingredients and cooked with love.
We adore Maggie Beer. Margaret Fulton and now Stephanie Alexander are national icons. Guy Grossi, Neil Perry, Kylie Kwong and the rest are household names, known not only in the foodie circles they move in but by every day Aussies who are inspired by their collective love of great food.
So what’s with My Kitchen Rules and the unkind, strategic play that dominates the show and pulls amazing rating figures?
This show is not about food – it’s about stitching people up, revelling in their failures and being downright mean.
There is no love, no kindness and not much (of what we consider) good food. Even Pete Evans’ big blue eyes are starting to look a little mean and as for Manu– it’s just a matter of time before he goes over as well. Is he stirring the pot then looking down his nose at the contestants?
So what are we watching Australia? Is this nourishing our souls and feeding our inspiration?
We Think Not!
